The snarky comment that turned up today is "I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you are unarmed." So coupled with Erika's new "it's on the calendar" theme at Art Journal Journey we have a story featuring Trixie and her cousin, Bart.
"It was a grim, snowy day, the first of the New Year 2024, when Trixie called around to see her Aunt. Aunt Jemima was quite elderly and it was only because her mum had asked her to call with some goodies for her Aunt that Trixie had ventured out. The wind was howling and the snow was swirling about so she had wrapped up in her hat and coat with a scarf to keep the cold out from around her neck. She would much rather have stayed in and read one of the books she had got for Christmas, but being the dutiful daughter that she was she had walked the half mile to her Aunts.
It was lovely and warm in Aunties kitchen, the kettle was on the stove and cousin Bart was stood there waiting for it to boil so he could make himself a cup of tea.
"Hello Bart" she called out cheerily as she let herself in the back door, "how are you?"
"OK" he replied, with the silly grin that always seemed to be on his face. "Have you come to see Aunt Jemima?"
"Yes, mum has sent some cakes over and some of the lemon curd she made yesterday. I think she said there were some scones in the basket and they would go well with the lemon curd."
"Ooh, goody, I could just eat a scone" he said.
"They are not for you" said Trixie crossly, he was always the same, thinking of himself and his voracious appetite. "Mum made them for Aunty not for you."
"Nobody need know" he said, "surely one or two won't be missed, stupid."
"Who are you calling stupid?" shouted Trixie across the kitchen, "I would challenge you to a battle of wits but I see you are unarmed."
"Eh?" Bart mumbled.
"Oh, nothing" replied Trixie with a smile, "You are not having any scones, in fact I am taking them straight through to Aunty so you just get on with making yourself a cup of tea, if you think you can manage it." And with that Trixie went off to find Aunt Jemima complete with the basket of goodies.

A bit too much telepathy going on here ! Great story, not that dissimilar to mine, just different when they were at their Aunties. A happy any healthy New Year to you and Chas xx

I have to say I am really impressed you had that little calendar hanging on the wall. That is cool! And I like this story too, but surely they don't need to argue about 1 or 2 scones, right? Smile. But I would be the same way as Trixie. Thanks so much for fixing this page to work, and joining in my challenge. Have fun away also. I hope you stay healthy too. :) hugs-Erika
Love your story and picture, well done, it's not an easy one. I aalways wonder how you and wendy manage to get these stories done and journaled! Hugs, Valerie
A fab page and story Neet! Great idea to hang that calendar on the wall :-)

Oh Neet! You are so clever! I love how you added the calendar to your page! It's a fun page too! Quite right that auntie got her scones! A great start to this year and Erika's AJJ theme,;-)hugs, Chrisx
fabulous page
Oh Neet, your stories always make me chuckle and this one is no exception. I'm kinda stuck on Aunt Jemima though. Here in America, she's a pancake syrup and pancake mix for decades until recently she got "cancelled" because she's a Black Mammy. Never mind that the woman whose face was on the product built a family fortune on it and it uplifted several black families economically and her family is not happy about the change. It will always be Aunt Jemima to me and I'm glad you used that name. Happy New Year to you and yours, xoxo
