Back to my day in Liverpool. We went to where the walled garden was at Croxteth Hall, walking through the Peach House first of all to get there. Jo told us that there were chimneys on top of the walls as they used to heat the wall to protect the plants - think she said there were vines there.
Here we are like Bill and Ben and Little Weed - thinking about it we should have stood one either side of the big one and then we really would have been those puppet characters.
and underneath the arches
Apparently (I shouted a gardener over because I wanted to know what one of the plants was so he got chatting) this is arch shaped because it was over what was once a greenhouse growing vines.
Split Espaliers
Can you see the little balls of box he is trying to cultivate?
So you see, there is plenty to do and see at Croxteth and we only saw a fraction of it. A very reasonable admission price too so why not look it up and hopefully pay it a visit.
ps if you are getting married the scope for photographs is tremendous - that Grand Staircase would be wonderful.
