WOYWW 433

So this weekend saw me in Lancaster on a workshop weekend with Mark Gould and Kate Crane. Run by the lovely Sharon and Mark from Rowan Tree Crafts in Carnforth.  So now we have that established I will show you the projects we did.

The picture is Mark's project and the folded card is a Midori type book made with Kate.  The picture is about A4 size and the folded card has pages to go inside it (not finished as yet).  So what is on my workdesk are pages waiting to be finished - and pages ...

waiting to be worked on
and below: having been worked or partly worked on

Oh and there's the stencil that I got in my goodie bag (I ate the mint Poppets, delish!)

Read on if you want to hear my rant:

So the weekend course was excellent, the company the same - but the hotel - not so for me!  After an early start my friend, Lorraine, and I arrived at the hotel.  Obviously we could not have access to our rooms so we left our luggage and spent the day doing the workshop with Mark.

At 5.30 pm I accessed my room (room 141) to find it stank of cigarette smoke.  I rang down to reception and reported this, asked for the room to be cleaned (afterall don't hotels charge around £100 for cleaning a room if someone has been illegally smoking in it).  It was so bad by the door/bathroom where the wardrobe also was that I did not feel able to put my clothes in the said wardrobe.

I went down for something to eat, watched the evening demo and returned to my room at around 10 pm to find it still smelled and was no different than when I had left it - obviously nothing had been done.  Again I rang down to reception to be told they had had a 'busy night' but would 'send someone up'.  I declined - at 10 pm, a female on her own and what were they going to do - spray air freshener?

What I should have done was go down to reception, baggage with me, and demand another room. Silly me - I spent a sleepless few hours, trying to sleep with my head under the bed cover,  I did not want to breathe in the smell of cigarettes with my having copd - could it be harmful?

Next morning, having slept for around 4 hours I took a piece of card down to reception with all of my comments on.  In my opinion the young guy on reception was not interested, referring to me as "room 141" rather than by name.

I was not after a "free" night, but after the way things panned out I just want the next person not to have to suffer as I did.  Therefore I have written on social media sites and to head office expressing my disgust.  The hotel was lovely - staff obviously needs training.  Don't be a fool like me and DEMAND your right to a decent room if you have a problem like I did.

Sorry Julia but I felt it important to mention this on here as it has a fairly broad market, mainly of women.

If you want to know about the "crop" (ie meet up with other crafters) just read the blog entry from Julia the other day.
