It's Postcards This Week ...

... On Just for Fun.  My third week of choosing under the umbrella "Size Matters" is Postcards (wonder what I chose for next week?).  Postcards are something that we automatically associate with holidays and send, hastily scribbled on the beach or in some cafe with a "Wish you were here" theme.  But they needn't be!  We can send a postcard at any time - to wish someone well, to cheer someone up, to congratulate or thank them - the possibilities are endless.  And the beauty of them is that they cost minimal postage.  (OK, so I have begun my last two sentences with a conjunction but I am writing as if I am talking to you so in my book I can get away with it.)

Why not go the whole hog and make someone a postcard, stamp an image and colour it in, make a scenic postcard, do a pattern, use a diecut, the possibilities are endless.  It would be fun to receive one through the post and imagine the look on the Postie's face as he pushed it through the letterbox.  You know what?  Think I will send myself one.  Only kidding!

I digress - here is my entry for the Just for Fun Challenge this week:

I adore the Mad Hatter - nothing to do with Johnny Depp although he does rather have a pair of gorgeous eyes - so the Mad Hatter had to be in on the scene.  You may have gathered I am an Alice fan so I had to do a second one

This was my original to be honest but I coloured in with Promarkers and, of course, they bled through.  Have now included the first one as one of my swaps on the Challenge.  There's even a message on the back from Alice for whoever gets it so why not do some swapping yourself this month.

Read all about it, lots of information regarding Postcards on the Just for Fun blog so let your fingers do the walking and take a trip over there - you won't be disappointed.

Oh Johnny

Made this card for my dil who is crazy about Johnny Depp (well who wouldn't be?).  As you can see I used pre-printed images in a collage for the main part of the card, one of my MS punches for the side decoration and a paper tissue rose.  The rose is like the one I made at the ArtsyCrafty weekend but this one has a shrink plastic clock as the centre but it does have two metal leaves on it.

It is actually on a pale blue shaded card but it does not show up in the photograph.  Couldn't scan it as I would have flattened the rose.

The reason it is a Thank You card is that they are treating us to a roast lamb lunch on Sunday and, although I expect Andy is making it, I thought I would make Sam a card.  Hope she likes it as she is not that into my handmade cards.  Boo Hoo!

I am off to Paddy's now as I have to start my sample for her crafting weekend when I am doing some claywork and as I have to make 40 beads to swap for a Polyclay weekend I am attending in June I doubt I will have much time for cardmaking.  Ah well, out comes the pasta machine.

ps I have a Thank You of my own to make - to Dot.  Thank you for the lovely card you sent to me.  If you want to see it you will have to visit her blog (23 May) - it is the top blue card with the shaving foam technique background and the birds on it.

Alice

Had to do another Gingersnap Challenge - this time "Growth".  I couldn't get my head to go away from Alice in Wonderland and her "growth" - maybe it is something to do with the lovely bag a friend bought me for my birthday with a picture of Johnny Depp (sorry, The Mad Hatter) on the front of it.

I used one of the concertina cards I got at the NEC show but the cardstock is a bit thin to use when spraying with inks so it has had to sit under a weight to make it completely flattened.  Sprayed it with Adirondack Inks - Lettuce and Butterscotch as I wanted a garden set of colours.  Then I used my Non Sequitur and Stamp Attack stamps for the images.

At first I stamped directly onto the card but decided that the colours did not show up enough so I re-stamped the Alice images on plain cs and after colouring them in with my Twinkling H2o's cut them out and stuck them down.

Hope this works for "Growth".

Card Opened

Tried to keep the images in order so this one shows Alice about to drink from the bottle marked "Drink Me".

This is to show "Growth" and the start of Alice beginning to grow with her neck elongating at this stage.

Here's a BIG Alice, checked in my Lewis Carroll book and this is the image of her when she had taken the drink.  I tried to show this with a small picture of the Mad Hatter which she is looking at as he runs off.  That bit is out of context but it is one of the smallest images I have and the words fit in with him.

Oh Johnny Depp ...

This is one of the posters when we came out of the cinema - Johnny Depp was his usual marvellous self.  He is so suited to these comedy roles - you wouldn't really think so when you see him as he really looks - so handsome.

This was another poster.
We missed out on a large one when we went in - too eager to get seated

The clickety click girls (plus Jayne)

Wow!  What a large screen at the Imax.  Had one second of feeling dizzy so closed my eyes and it passed.  Mo fell asleep with closing her eyes, Jo had a few dizzy spells so closed her eyes a few times and Jayne was fine (young stuff so it didn't affect her).

Fab film, new experience with three dimensions and a big screen.

Steampunk Printworks

Afterwards we went for a coffee - this is Victoria Railway Station - lovely old building - the structure for the clock always fascinates me.

Mo and I went shopping afterwards (Jayne and Jo had to leave early) and this is Mo outside The Shambles.  Now how on earth did they move these old buildings from one site to this one?

Mo and I bought carrier bags - I got one for my dil who is Johnny Depp crazy - wonder what she will think?
