Journal - Doorway

This week it is the turn of Wendy to choose the colours and she chose to use Rust and Blue and the topic was to be "Doorway".  I had a lovely picture of a doorway that I had taken many years ago in Kyrenia, northern Cyprus.  I just have a thing about taking photos of doors!  Well, at last I got a chance to use it in some artwork and the funny thing was, it was BLUE.  Mind you the background was grey from the plaster finish and the exposed stonework so that became a third colour.

Door Closed (as per actual photo)

I used paint to make the rust and tried to blend the edges of the photo in (more successful with the top than the bottom) and used some stamps to imitate cobbles and then a further stamp.  At the top I felt the brickwork stamp worked well.

Door Open

As you can see the door actually opens and there is someone waiting inside.  All the Dylusion figures were a bit too tall and I was tempted to use a) a Stampotique figure, or b) one of those Tim Holtz photographic figures.  Eventually I chose to use a Dylusion one and chopped her down so she almost fit inside the door.

Yes, I had to take a page out of my book and cut the door bit out so that it opened.  So much easier if it had been a ring bound book.

Right, wonder what Wendy has done?  I really enjoyed and now love this page.  Is it the door photo that has made me like it so much?
