Another day, another week, another WOYWW post! What am I on about? Go here to find out.
Well I had a good morning on Monday and managed to get into my craft room and do a bit of Distress Oxide Inking. Now I am ready to start playing with some fairy stamps that my friend Mo loaned to me because I don't have that many and wanted to make another of those little books with fairies in this time. Certainly don't have any background stamps that are suitable. This will form another sample for my class at our stamping club in July when I get around to stamping the figures on it.
To the very left is my drawer where I keep all my Oxides and there on my worktop are the ones I was using, followed by three of those round applicators and finally some of my pages with different techniques on them. The little circle and aperture at the front are what I used for my "moon" but I don't know where I put the pages when I took the photo. Because the colours looked strong I decided to do some pages using brushes so I had to use my Duster Brushes but I was not happy with the results - will have to try again when I get the brushes I ordered (thanks Shaz B).
I noticed on some of my cards, as I was doing them, that they had bits stuck to them. These did not always pick off but my Oxide pads seem to be shedding! Has anyone else had this happen and does anyone know what it is? I did wonder if it was my cardstock but it is what I always use and it doesn't happen with the Distress Inks, only the Oxides. Here's a photo of one of my inkpads to show you:
If you click on it you will see the bits on the actual pad
Well, not being entirely happy with the Distress Oxides I decided to do some with my Pan Pastels. Mainly because I had received a beautiful card from Margaret Rose in a Mingle swap I had been in. The background is gorgeous (as is the card) and when I asked what she used she said "Pastels". Mine are not as lovely as hers but I can do them sat in my chair (yes, my back went Tuesday after lunch). I'll show you her card rather than my backgrounds.
I did watch the re-run of of Hochanda simply because I saw that Di from Tando was on. Shame I didn't see the actual show. I would have loved those templates for the pages for books - she did an amazing job and to say it was a sell-out is an under statement - I think they had about three, if not four, extended dates on the templates and extended dates on other things too. Wonder if any of you got them? Would love to see what you make with them, I just love handmade books. It's got me thinking of making another journal/folio type book myself so I am hoping to have a good day or two so I can get cutting. There's so much I want to do.

Not noticed that with my oxides, no. How odd. Great assortment of colours all laid out like that! Have a fab week. Helen #?
Glad your back allowed you some play time in your craft room Neet, if only for a short time. I love those backgrounds with the Oxides. I can't say that I have had an issue with them. Look forward to seeing your fairy book. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #?
They look like wonderful rainbow filled backgrounds of vibrant colour, perfect for stamping fairies onto :) I like the distress oxides but haven't yet experienced the problem you are having. Is the pad flaking? Or is it bits of dried ink, given that they are thicker, pigment based liquids. Be interesting if you find out the answer :) P xx
I think it's great that there's so much you want to do - me too! That pastels card is really lovely but I like your bright and bold backgrounds best (cor, that was alliterative!) Boo sucks to that Oxide shedding like that though, they're expensive enough that they should last properly.

I think the bright backgrounds looks stunning but then again soft pastels are very nice indeed. Isn't it wonderful to have so many choices. I wonder if you contact the company about the Oxide shedding bits they might refund?? You never know. Have a lovely week

Oh these Oxides are in the best hands as I can see and I LOVE this beautiful card! Gorgeous!

So glad you’ve had a day good enough to include some desk time...and look at you go! I have a couple of shedding pads...I assumed it was the linen surface fraying at the edges. It’s a bit of a nuisance. Mr Dunnit suggested that I run some silicone around the edge of the pad to seal the frayed edges, but I don’t wanna work that hard on something I’ve already spent 6 quid on!! Anyway....the colours on my blogged card are Wild Honey and fossilised Amber, and a bit of gathered twigs to round the bird off. Get me, I sound as if I might know what I’m doing. I have never ever, not once watched the craft channels...not for any reason except I never get round to it. I think its safer for me this way. But...if I come across anyone that ordered those templates, I’ll be sure to offer them a fair price on your behalf!!
Hi Neet, I'm guessing it's down to what the pads are made from. I have one or two that do that so far, but I do need to make more use of the Oxides. Time will tell. Love the card with the pastels, and love the word stamp on it. Interesting thought from Paul, could it be ink?Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #4 X
It really sounds like a 'want to do so much but too little time' post today Neet. It's really wonderful that you're feeling well enough to feel so creative.
Hugs,

I have not used oxide so cant help you, so behind in crafting news I am. Sometimes weather and climate affects those pads

Hi Neet, that's strange with the Oxide ink pads. I have loads of them and use them most of the time now but haven't had this problem yet. I wonder if this is an old one or a new one. I was never really happy with the duster brushes but since I got the Make-up style ones the difference is amazing. Thanks for the visit to mine and wishing you a happy and creative woyww, Angela x14x
Hi Neet, haven't had a problem with oxides but I don't like them as much as the normal distress inks.your bright backgrounds are lovely

So wonederful that you have so much you want to do! It's a great feeling, that is, like having the world set out in front of you, and you raring to go! I haven't used my oxides enough to notice if that shedding is happening, it could just be the nature of the ink? I look forward to your fairy cards, the backgrounds so far look great! Have a wonderful week, Lindart #22
I only have a few oxides but have used them a lot with no shredding...yet. Seeing all your beautiful pads laid out there, Neet, I definitely need more colours and need to experiment more. I still tend to revert back to my old favourite distress inks.
Have a good week

Oh I do hope my oxides don't go like that. I think I would return them, but sometimes it's difficult to remember where I bought something.

Look at all those luscious oxides! I love the vibrancy of the colours. enjoy playing and I am continuing to pray for your back. Have a good week. Happy WOYWW. Caro x (#15)
Hi Neet, the pastel card does look lovely, I'm not surprised you wanted to recreate the background. I've not yet had that problem with my Oxide pads, although I don't use them very much. I'm the same as you - so much I want to do, but I've not enough hours! Sorry to hear your back has gone again - you are certainly having a bad time of it. Thanks for the visit - I'm glad I've managed to spend some time crafting - my little craftroom was feeling neglected. I have been lucky with my travels - whilst I'm still fit and able we are doing our best to visit new places. I will share some pics after our next holiday. Have a lovely week Heather xx #6
Hi Neet- sorry your back .
has gone again.
Weird how your pads have gone, I've not got oxides. One of my SU pads went very strange. They sent me a new one. Thanks for your lovely comments on my blog and your sweet offer to listen. Take care. Anne X 15
Thanks for your visit, Neet - so glad you like my Celtic knots. I love adding the shading and highlights to make them 3-dimensional. I think I shall make at least some of them into cards. I've got a lot more printed sheets and want to experiment with different methods of colouring/embellishing them. As for the kitties, they love to star on my blog! They are always up to something or other and bring us such joy! Thank you for your good wishes for my upcoming appointment too. I do hope you continue to improve with your back - I can only imagine the frustration it causes you.
Hugs,

That foxglove card is so pretty Neet. I remember having some stamping pads that fell apart like that but I think they were just old! xx Jo
Sorry for late reply Neet - I did get back to all my lovely visitors yesterday only to find not one message had posted! I do love the oxides I have to say ... at the moment they have a slight edge over my much loved DI's but I find I prefer DO sprays and DI pads - how random is that! looking forward to seeing your finished fairy book. Love to you, Debbie xXx
Love the backgrounds. Not used my oxides enough to notice any shredding - that's annoying! I try not to watch hochanda too much as I end up buying loads!! Have a great week . Soojay 26
Those lovely blended colours have put a smile on my face - bold, bright and cheerful. Funny about the pads disintegrating - I haven't noticed mine doing that, but they've not seen much action lately to be honest.
Such a pretty card to receive, and I can understand why it drove you to some pastel experimenting. Glad to hear you can manage it despite the setback with your back. Hope you're doing okay.
