It was good to get up yesterday and see the green grass of our back lawn. First time in what seems like weeks but in fact was only a week ago. It's really strange how the weather varies between the front and back lawns. The front cleared fairly quickly but sometimes we have seen it rain at the back of the house and be fine at the front.
Of course the news has been dominated by the fires of LA and last week saw me sending lots of messages out to friends over there. I managed to track down all those people we know who live in the areas affected and thankfully they were fine, if evacuated to nearby friends and family, although David and his two boys had had to go in a hostel.
Seeing the photos and watching the short film last night brought back memories of when we went to visit our friend after the last fire that took her home. It was like walking on a scene from War of the Worlds as we waded through piles of ash and bricks trying to find the weather vane her husband had once had made for her. We didn't find it. It was strange to see an area of some 250 homes reduced to twisted metal and rubble yet plant pots remained upright just were they had stood at the entrance to someone's home.
Even more strange was to see her sister's home on the street behind hers standing fully intact. How had that fire bounced its way along the Park, hitting most houses, missing the odd one. Both our friend's sisters homes were saved but the families were not allowed back on the Park for a good few months as facilities were dangerous or polluted.
I've done nothing craft-wise apart from my Thursday blog and one more coaster, a seahorse. I would have preferred to do a 'land' animal but the seahorse was the only other large figure I had. I have sent for some varnish from Amazon so by next week they should be ready to use as coasters.
My hip has been playing up, sorry if it appears I am all whinge and whine, and I need to get it seen to and then maybe I can get the craft room sorted and do a bit of decluttering. Guess I am going to have to learn to come to grips with Ebay and other such means of clearing craft stuff.
Rightio, better get on, this is a scheduled post and it's getting late. See you at Sarah's Craft Shed later.

Those fires have been horrible. Glad to hear your friends are OK. It's just hard to imagine that so many homes in an area are gone. Hope your hip feels better soon, and all your snow disappears too. hugs-Erika
The fires in LA are just dreadful to see, all those houses and businesses burnt to the ground, everything gone... I am glad your friends are all ok, if currently displaced. The coasters are fabulous, hope your varnish comes soon and you can use. them. Happy WOYWW Helen #1
Glad to hear that all your LA friends are OK Neet - let's hope their homes aren't lost. Hoping your hip is better soon too. Lovely coasters - the sea horse is gorgeous. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah
The L A. devastation is dreadful and I just can't even imagine how long it will take those poor folks to get their homes and businesses back. I hope your hip eases a bit. So many aches and pains as we age. Luckily we have our crafts to keep us cheerful and your coasters are lovely.😀x x Jo 🌈
Floods, snow and ice here in the UK and fires in America - you're right about it being a heck of a start to the New Year. Yesterday on my daily riverside walk was also the first time in a week I've seen grass instead of snow. Sorry to hear your hip is playing up :( No need to apologise for whinging - this is the perfect place to share - good and bad. Life is light and shade, it's not authentic to pretend otherwise. It makes your blog relatable. BTW Love the addition of the seahorse coaster. Look forward to seeing them when they are varnished. Sending hugs P xxxxxxxx
I’m glad your friends are ok Neet but they must all be in total shock after what’s happened, so sad. I really like that seahorse, it fits in so well into the circular shape and the colours are wonderful! Sorry to hear your hip is playing you up, bet the really freezy weather hasn’t helped at all, it’s been parky here too but we’ve missed the worst of it.
Hugs LLJ 3 xx
It's been an awful week for those poor people in LA and it sounds like your friend was one of the lucky ones which must be a relief. I understand to clear some craft stuff, I don't know where to start but someone said that there are charity shops that will take some things so we'll see. Take care and hope you get the hip sorted soon. Happy woyww, Angela x10x
Oh golly, those are sad and traumatic memories Neet. The fires are on such a scale that it's difficult to comprehend, and of course the pollution and safety aspects before rebuilding haven't even been considered yet. My heart bleeds for everyone involved. Sorry about your hip, it is a horribly distracting pain isn't it, no good place to rest it or get relief...don't rule out painkillers! And don't worry about your craft room....I mean, have t you seen my desk?!!
This are unhappy and traumatic memories Neet, and the current wave of fires are so appalling, the areas involved are so huge that it's really quite hard to comprehend. I hadn't thought about pollution and such dangers, it's going to be a long hard haul for all of the victims isn't it, makes my heart hurt for them.
Sorry about your hip, it's a frightful pain because there's no comfortable place to lie, sit or stand for long...don't rule out painkillers, remember you can't get addicted to paracetomol! And don't worry about your craft room, gracious, you've seen my desk haven't you?!!
Oh, I've commented twice, sorry, thought I'd deleted but suspect I just forgot that you publish after approval. Duh!!
When we left the UK for Australia 5 years ago I halved my craft supplies by selling on eBay. When we moved the majority of our boxes were still full of craft stuff! However it was amazing what I could sell - stamp sets/dies/ job lots of envelopes etc etc.

Sorry your hip has been playing you up. Those fires in LA have been really awful and left a lot of people bereft of everything they own. It is amazing how certain buildings remained untouched. I wondered if insurance would cover the cost of rebuilding and replacing what has been lost. Happy WOYWW. Angela #13
Hard to imagine how terrible the experience had been for the people in LA. I’m glad your friends are safe, even if they have been displaced.
Your coasters are lovely: I hope your varnish works well.
Take care and happy WOYWW

Hi, Neet! I hope you hip gets better! The fires are scary. The weather in general is challenging. I pray for the best for the victims of the fires. It has to be devastating to lose everything. I don't care what Zip Code you live in! Have a better week!

Hi Neet, sorry I'm late, Wednesday disappeared - nope, no crafting with those lunch ladies, but a lorra lorra nattering!! Those fires in LA are just awful - it really does seem they are becoming more common in all sorts of places. I watched a short interview of someone talking about the young people and how the community had tried to arrange events for them to get together, so sad because they have lost their homes, their schools, their class mates and it will be ages before things are back to normal. Makes you realise how much we take for granted. Little Splodge is with me today so catching up during nap time. He's been an absolute darling today, and been singing me lots of nursery songs and rhymes.
Sorry to hear your knee is playing up. I had a Christmas card from Wendy, I had to laugh she wrote that she will be 80 this year and growing old is not to be recommended. I agree but I'll take it over the alternative!! Have a good week, love n hugs Cindy xx #12
The fires have been devastating, I'm glad your friends are OK. It will take a long time to restore the damage. I can't even imagine what it must be like for those involved in any way. Your coasters are lovely, I really like the seahorse! Hope you are feeling better soon, have a great week, Lindart #14
Super seahorse and sorry to hear your hip is playing up, this cold weather doesn't help does it. Know what you mean about the differences front and back of the house and I too am glad the whiteness has finally gone. Hugs BJ#5
