We have seen on TV how areas have been affected by terrible flooding - some yet again after having suffered not long ago. My heart goes out to those affected and I cannot help but think of my friend Carol who has been living in accommodation for the past few months from the last time her home was hit. The photographs I saw of her home were heartbreaking and it brought it home to me just what flood water damage can really do. I hope our WOYWW family are safe and have not suffered with these terrible floods.
Guess it is back to normal for some of us. Schools around here went back on Monday and the snow came down thick and fast on Tuesday after a little bit on Sunday. Just when the kids were no longer at home and not able to build snowmen in the mornings and have snowball fights (safe ones - not in the playground).
For us it was a question of taking the tree down, but that was the day before the snow came down. I wasn't bothered about one going up this year but Chas did it and when it came time to dismantle it I didn't want it to be taken down. I had so enjoyed my tree over Christmas.
Poor Father Christmas also had to go back in his box
I haven't done much in the way of crafting over the holiday, made three cards ready for next Christmas so now have a total of 27 cards (I think). Then I decided to get back to my coasters and so I stuck the pictures you saw on the 18th December on the old two but I found a third one. So yesterday they were drying and they now want trimming and then glazing. Diana told me about some varnish but I haven't been able to find any so I am trying a different one on a small picture I have done to do on a button. I need something good so that they withstand heat.
Maybe next week I will have them with a nice finish on them. For now I'll just pop over to Sarah's Craft Shed and see what everyone on WOYWW is up to.

the coasters look fabulous, I hope you can find some suitable varnish to seal them. Stay safe if you get more snow. Happy WOYWW Helen #2
Floods on your side of the pond, and huge fires on the other side - catastrophes every way you look! :(.
Aren't we funny creatures - not wanting something, and then when it is provided, not wanting it to be removed...
You coasters look lovely - I am looking forward to seeing them finished
Blessings

That upwards gazing hare it just stunning, as is Father Christmas. Can't wait to see more of the coasters, and for you to share more of the process and what varnish you use. I think I may still have a stash of round clip together coaster shells...somewhere. No varnish needed for them!
Sneaking in a few before leaving for Drs.

Wow your coasters are looking fabulous, hope you find the varnish. Sweet to read how after not wanting your tree up, you then felt sad at having to take it down :). The weather, as you say has been a notable start to the year. Stockport here was headline news with the flooding. We took our daily stroll down by the river that day and had to take lots of diversions. The goal posts on the field we normally pass were completely covered, it was that deeply flooded. However our home wasn't affected (if we get floods this high up, then there really is a problem!!!) Sending hugs to poor Carol, what a stressful start to the New Year. P xxxxxxx
I hope the snow didn’t affect you too much, we didn’t have any here, just more rain and wind! I love your Father Christmas and can see why you were sad at putting him away for another year, I’ve never seen one like him before, love his burgundy suit and the fact that he’s playing a violin (or something!) We had put our Christmas decs up earlier this year but I like them all down before New Year to start afresh with a clean house, daft I know, but there you are!!
The coasters look really fab, hope you manage to find a suitable varnish for them.

Love the coasters. Stay warm and safe in this cold weather.

I love having the tree up but I'm lucky that hubby is happy to put it up and take it down or I might not bother but i do have other Christmas decorations that I'm in charge of. Good luck at finishing the coasters. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x7x
I agree, it must be awful for the flood damage victims, specially if the insurance no longer covers it. It seems to happen more often now. I always feel a little sad when the Christmas stuff gets put a way. Only ten and half months to go and we can get it out again.🤣🤣 Happy WOYWW. Angela #13
You made me smile as I've felt exactly as you have about putting the tree up - I really wasn't bothered at all, but I was so glad we did and have really missed it since it came down - it was such a joy to see everytime I walked into the room! Your Father Christmas is a gorgeous old chap - what a shame he has to hide away for the next few months. I love your coasters - they are beautiful, what a shame you couldn't find the varnish - I believe Wilko shut down their shops, (not that we had one near us I don't think) but I think they only sell on line now - I hope they haven't discontinued it - so many things I like or rely on become discontinued so often that my sister won't tell me brand names of things she uses in case I jinx it!
I hope you have a good week and not too much snow (it's avoided us so far),
Hugs, Diana xx #14
Although it is very cold and we had a bit of snow here down South it is hard to imagine how people are coping with this awful weather in other parts of the UK.
Our decs were up very late so left it till the last minute to take down - hubby did most of it as I find it very depressing (and anyway I had a chance to visit you-know-who). I do sometimes get cross with how he's packed it away when the time comes to get it out again (no logic) but I'd rather put up with that than do it myself!! Have a great week, love n hugs Cindyxx #11
Oh what a delight to find lots of comments when I woke up again this morning. WOYWW is certainly my "constant" at the moment and I thank all you lovely ladies for being there for me, I am blessed.
I decided some years ago to leave my main tree up till Candlemas on 2nd Feb. It's in a cold conservatory overlooked on one side by the lounge and another the kitchen and we don't need to go in there for anything in this cold so up it stays! Think I'll leave my wreath outside till then too LOL. Both will be really dead by Feb - LOL. Hope you sort the glaze for your coasters and button, the pictures are delightful. Hugs BJ#3
Your costers are nice! I love the images from Lavinia Stamps, can't afford them, but they are wonderful and work on so many different types of projects. I look forward to seeing your completed coasters!
Have a fabulous week!

It's heartbreaking to see peoples homes devastated by the floods and then to have to relive that nightmare all over again. We've always been very lucky weather-wise on the Essex coastline.
Your coasters are just beautiful, love these and look forward to hearing what you ended up sealing them with. Yes, there's always that tinge of sadness when the decorations come down. Those twinkling lights and extra sparkle brightens these darker, colder days. - Happy WOYWW Michelle #15
Great choices of image for the coasters, never done it for coasters, but have you considered embossing enamel? Mind you, if you haven't got any ultra thick powder it might be as difficult to find an any suitable glaze!! The weather is devastating for so many isn't it heartbreaking. Can't tell you how often we express gratitude for living in an area that's relatively untouched by storms and the worst of any weather. Same here with the tree, ended up really enjoying mine and it feels s if we've moved house now it's gone!!
I do love your Father Christmas, he looks very jolly. I miss our Christmas tree but I wouldn’t leave them up after twelfth night. Your coasters are lovely too. I hope you find a suitable protector. I bought some Dorlands sealing wax but haven’t dared use it yet.
Happy WOYWW, hugs Lynnecrafts 10 xx
Your little coasters are fab Neet and varnish will seal then nicely I guess . Keep cosy and stay safe. x. x Jo 🌈
Love those fabulous coasters Neet. Good luck finding appropriate varnish. Looks like the crop will be the 10th as people don't like the idea of travelling at the BH. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW Sarah
What super images on the coasters!
Our Christmas decs are down although the temperature here has been very high so it was difficult getting the outside ones down. Hot cross buns have been on the shelves since before Christmas!!
Happy WOYWW! Susan #1
It's sad to put away the Christmas decor, isn't it? I'm all picked up now too. It makes it really feel like the new year, doesn't it? Those are super coasters. I love the images. It would be hard to pick a favorite. I hope 2025 has started well for you. Hugs-Erika
