Jeudi Journal - Let's Talk

Polly was a keen underwater swimmer.  Her mother said she had been born with the lungs of a fish as she would slide under the water in the bath as a young baby and could lie there for a considerable time before arching her back to get up.  Maybe her birthday under the star sign of Pisces had something to do with it. She really had been a handful when growing up.  Anyhow, Polly was a keen swimmer and spent most of her time in the water exploring everywhere and anywhere she could.  She was also prone to being a little arrogant at times but her friends all knew her and put up with her ways which showed through now and again.  Most of the time however she was nice and always loyal to her friends.

This particular day Polly had gone diving and swimming around with her friend Prue,   They were on holiday in Egypt and trying out some new waters hoping to spot some different species of fish.    At one time a friendly one eyed octopus had swum by with a tiny brightly coloured crab  on his tail.  there had been some funny looking creatures on the ocean's bed but so far no exotic fish.

Suddenly Polly noticed a fish swimming right at her with his mouth wide open as if he was going to swallow her up.

"You don't scare me", said Polly, "I've seen bigger fish than you around or do you want to talk?  Tell you what - Let's talk soon because I miss the sound of my own voice."

Prue was well out of sight but later that day Polly was telling her about the pink fish and how he tried to scare her.  She said told Prue how she had told him she would chat with him later. Prue wondered just what had been said and wondered if Polly had told him how she loved the sound of her own voice.  Prue was an expert on knowing that, afterall she was the one who had to put up with Polly and her arrogant ways at times.

This was done on a pre stencilled page in my journal - being the reverse stencilling of the page I showed you last week (ie last week's was a second generation - this was a first).  I had to do the page in a bit of a hurry on Tuesday because I had just learned that my friend has passed away in the early hours of the morning and I knew there was no time after that day to do anything.  It occupied me and helped with the grieving too.

I quickly thought up the bare bones of a story, found the last swimming figure I had and put a masked head on her.  Then I went through my  stash of Dylusion figures and found the underwater ones.  A quick session with a couple of Promarkers and I was ready - just a story to make up.  Sorry it is not very imaginative but I am now linking it up with Art Journal Journey and Mia's theme of Fish.  Hope to see some of you there.

Polly's face is a little scary, but what a fun story and a fun page too. I love all of Dyan's sea creatures (I'll be using the fish next week in a page), and I like how you used them here. That's a great quote this week too. I can just hear Polly's voice coming through the diving mask with that almost mechanical scratchy sound. Thanks for sharing with us at AJJ Neet. You are really rocking Mia's fish challenge. hugs-Erika

I love your ingenuity in making up these stories, I caan just imagine Polly talking to the fish. And I think we all know people like that, who just love their own voice. When I visit my friend I have to watch out for her neighbour, who stands behind the door and pounces on unwary bypassers to tell them the latest news, and it is so hard to escape from her! Have a great day hugs, Valerie

Fun water creatures are there with Polly - she might be happy that they cant speak much (I suppose) because she likes so much her own voice🦐
Nice story. It's sad to here about your friend.
Have a good weekend ahead 💙🌿

Great story and characters, the mask faces have come in useful for something other than a virus. Love the fish. Hope you are both well, hugs Wendy xx

So sorry to read about your friend dying. Nice to have the art to fall back on. It is really very cleverly done and I love the images you chose. These are perfect for Mia's theme at Art Journal Journey, too.

A great story and fun page, I hope the conversation went well and the fish didn't surprise her by answering back. Thank you for another fantastic entry to Mia's theme at AJJ

Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments... it's lovely to connect back here in Craftyblogland (I know we've touched base over at IG, but it's not the same!). Given you always create such fantastic stories around your pages, I'm glad you approve of the Framed story.

I adore the words here, and the brilliant pairing with the imagery as always. Polly should maybe watch her step - that fish may have been warned off, but not all of them are so persuadable!
