WOYWW 563

Wednesday means only one thing here WOYWW time is here and I am joining Julia and her little band of cfrafters showing what is on their desks.  Last week I tried to comment on Ali's blog but it kept coming up saying I was "blocked as a suspected bot" no idea what I was doing wrong, tried three times but still the same message.  What is a bot"?  Others had posted - what did I do wrong?

Well, I suppose the topic on most people's minds will be the Coronavirus.  After Boris and his talk about families losing a loved one on Thursday and the papers being full of the quote I don't really want to dwell on it but I do hope that you all are ok.  It upset me so much and still does if I think of it.  Is the man thoughtless?  Sorry, but it did and I had to say it.

Then tonight on the BBC they were offering advice where people had rung in.  One thing was a query about shopping and did you need to wipe it down?  The answer was that really you should wash everything in soap and water.  I felt like some chocolate tonight but after washing it in hot soapy water it had shrunk to almost nothing, my hands were a mess - and I only sang "Happy Birthday Twice" whilst doing it.

I am thinking of you all, and wondering about those in Spain (craftyani in particular) who I don't recall having heard from for a week or two.  I just hope you are all well and safe and you post on WOYWW even if you have nothing to show so that we know you are ok.  Please.

Nothing much to show you on my desk except my new pencils - all 72 of them - from China!  Being paranoid I wiped the package, got rid of it all safely and put the pencils in this box.  Not touched them since but only because I have had no need to.  Then there is my journal but I can't show you inside as it is due to be on my blog tomorrow.   As you don't visit on a Thursday I can show you an older page - this is from three weeks or so ago, just so you know I do something each week:

She had umbrellas for her skirt

Was going to show you my birthday cards but as they are still in the window sill I have not got around to scanning them.  Hopefully next week.

Health Update:
My chiropractic has closed because of the coronavirus so I am hoping and praying my back will be ok enough with the heat, ice and Chas rubbing it until she reopens.  I did buy a hand massager (special one at £50) in the hopes that I can use it, if desperately needed, despite having my Pacemaker.
Got a sore throat, prickly eyes and runny nose but do not think it is anything to worry about, fingers crossed.

Stay safe Everyone!

it was a scary message Boris gave but think he had to do something. I am still working (in the office for now) and cannot stand seeing the empty shelves in the shops from all those thoughtless people who have been buying up everything in sight... Loving your journal page and hope your cold comes to nothing - it's a cold if it's a runny nose as that isn't the symptoms of the virus. love. Helen #?

Stay safe Neet. I hope your back holds out. Great journal page. I don't think the virus can alst long on posted items so you should be OK with the pencils even if they have come from China. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #?

Thanks goodness we can at least stay connected via the web. Stay safe Neet and do whatever you need to do to ensure your health issues do not reappear.

Love your umbrella skirts idea. Don't listen to media reports on the virus they can be very frightening. Use your common sense and I am sure everything will be ok. Ani #7

Happy WOYWW. I had to Google what a Bot is - seems it is a robot that is automatically posting on the internet, so not human. Do you get one of those boxes coming up to tick to say that you are human? I haven't had anyone else say they could not comment, so perhaps just one of those things. I am only watching the news once per day now, and if they haven't got any useful updates on the coronavirus, then I just stop watching. My anxiety is bad enough without the added stress of too much 'news'. Ali x #9

I agree with Ani Neet, the Media can be very scary. I had to deal with my Mother in utter panic in the early hours of Monday morning worrying how she would get her medication if the Drs & chemist were to close. Funny to read about the chocolate, stay in high spirits Neet we got to keep a smile on our faces it's a healthy contagion!! Keep safe Hugs Tracey #10 x

Oh Neet - praying that your back survives and does not regress during this... it has reached us here, with the number of cases doubling in 24 hours :( We are not in any sort of 'compulsory' shut down, but I think I will be staying close to home from now on
Blessings

Morning Neet. I kept getting the same message on Ali's page last week, too. In the end I emailed her! So, if you did something wrong - then so did I - look at it that we are an exalted group, to be so favoured :-)!!! I like the page you made - great fun. I think the skirt idea was greast. One of my daughters sent a video round our family Whatsapp group last night - a lovely young youth leader who talked to the young folks in churches - and further afield - about what to do with the fear and panic which is being engendered at the moment. Among other things he suggested were:- 1 - turn to God cos He IS in control and knows the end from the beginning 2 Do something creative. He even suggested writing your own rap!!!
Take care dear girl. God bless.

Ooooh, I have pencil envy, lol! I think you're sensible wiping them down like that before using, it's just another precaution that we all have to think about taking these days. Hope you stay safe and well and that the massager works!

I just know our connection via the internet will keep so many of us going through this difficult time....we are part of a wonderful gang.
I'm a great believer in being sensible but carrying on as best as we can.
Stay safe and well my friend and you always know where you have friends if you need us.
Big hugs,

Oh Neet. Keep your chin up and don't let them grind you down. I had to laugh at your chocolate though. I think we just have to be sensible and keep things in proportion although it can be hard when everyone's talking about it. The radio is keeping me sane.
Take care

I guess we all need to "Keep calm and carry on" but it's hard when you hear the state of the world and our country too. It will pass and in the mean time we can get more crafty stuff done! Keep well and keep safe. xx Jo

Hi Neet, hope you're okay and keeping busy. I don't know either what the bot thing is but there are a couple of blogs where I keep getting that. I tried to find out what it was but to be honest I couldn't understand the terms used so gave up on it. Sending hugs and wishing you a happy creative and safe woyww, Angela x12x

Hi Neet, love the idea of using umbrellas for her skirt! Great buy with the pencils too. I think we are all trying to stay as safe as possible, I'm not going for my regular walks around town, just a 10 minute walk around the block for me for a while. I do hope you cope with your back during this, lockdowns affect so many people in so many difficult situations. I'll do a die cut later today, and post a blog post about it. Stay safe, and have a good week, Hugs, Shaz #6 X

PS, Neet, it's not just you with Ali's blog, I just got the same message. Must be something to do with her settings, I think. Shaz X

Your journal page is gorgeous - such a bright, fun page - just what we need to see at the moment! I am rationing myself to just the news headlines once a day and am avoiding social media as much as possible - I'm aware of the seriousness and of what I need to do but don't want to be bombarded with it all day long - it's quite overwhelming and distressing enough as it is. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your back is OK, and I'm sure your sniffles will be nothing to worry about - I've got the same at the moment but they don't seem to be getting worse luckily.
Stay safe and keep crafting!

Oh dear.. these are strange times and all we can do is sit, craft and wait... we're not homebound completely in Holland (we are still alowed to go outside) but the place I work closed its doors (as do the schools, pubs, restaurants and most shops) and since I cannot do my work at home, I am unemployed now. It feels strange to have no job all of a sudden... I'm glad I have my online friends! Take care, stay healthy! Big virtual hug from the Netherlands! Marit #21

Glad you are OK, Neet, and hope you can manage your back with the new massager. I too have had to cancel my chiropractor. I have a really good hand held massager that should be OK until I can go back. I certainly agree with you about people posting, if just to know that they are still OK.
You journal page is delightful, how clever of you to use umbrellas for skirts!
Take care, stay safe, we will get through this. Have a great week, Lindart #26

I am a high risk person with my age and diabetes and at present I'm sheltering in place. However I'm really trying not to panic and I'm really not doing much more that normal during cold or flu season. I'm trying to use common sense and wash my hands often and stay away from people. I was able to get groceries in before panic buying took over so i'm good for a bit. Glenda #18

Hi Neet, I suspect the pencils haven't just arrived from China unless you ordered them direct and the cleaning should do the trick as they would have been in transit for some time, it's a long way to China after all. By the way, you were right they are Sizzix dies in the shelves at the back of my desk, mostly Tim Holtz that I have collected over a long time. You take care and have a lovely creative woyww, Angela x12x

Hi Neet. You're not alone in finding some of the media coverage upsetting, or even feeling a little paranoid. I do think it will take a while for us all to come to terms with the situation, but I'm still hopeful that things will settle down and we will all, as a society, start pulling together.
Do take care of yourself, be gentle with your back, and remember to focus in on the positive moments - when enjoying a mouthful of half-melted, soap-flavoured chocolate perhaps?!

Well that box of pencils is a big a smile as I need today that’s for sure. How delicious. I’ve stopped watching the news...I don’t need to, it leaks into my awareness anyway and it just gets me down. Whatever the changes, be sure to protect yourself as well as you can. Sorry to hear about our chiropractors decision...move gently, please!!

Hi Neet, soapy chocolate, sounds absolutely scrumptious- not!! I believe the virus will only survive on inanimate objects for maximum of 7 days, so your pencils should be safe. My Chinese suppliers are now back at work, although they all still had face masks on when I spoke to one of them this morning via video link. Boris does seem to sometimes speak before he thinks (as my late mother would have said), and has upset a number of people. Thanks for visiting earlier - I too would send my mum one of my cards, I miss her so much still, even after 31 years! It is difficult working from home as I still have to manage a team of 6 remotely, and have meetings via conference call. On the plus side it is quieter, casual dress, and when I look out of my window I see the barmy squirrels chasing each other in my garden. Stay safe my friend, and I hope your back pain keeps to a minimum. Hugs, Heather xx #13

Hi Neet! I do have pencil envy despite the fact that I have plenty. Don't watch too much news. It's depressing and scary. Just take care and craft. I love your journal page. I hope your back feels better while your doctor's office is closed. I am glad we have our group through this time. Even though we are miles and continents apart, it is nice to have this platform to connect.
Stay well.

It is so frightening right now, isn't it? I worry as my husband is immunosuppressed. Luckily he has started working from home, and that started with me this past Monday. In fct school is totally closed and we are not allowed to even go in.And I am glad you reshowed this page as I missed it. It must have been the week we went away-but thank goodness we could still easily travel then. Now I am happy to stay home. Take care and keep washing your hands. Hugs-Erika

HI Neet, thanks for the smiles on the chocolate story and I think the umbrella as a skirt is just brilliant :)
I have the idea that things that arrive in the mail are OK as long as you did not spring for overnight freight. (but, wiping them down is a good thought too) ~Stacy #27

My desk would frighten you all! I plan to clean it off this weekend and actually start using it so maybe I will share in the future. Wipe down everything - it is how we will survive. TFS!

I think the scare-mongering media coverage has been irresponsible, and the politicians feel obliged to do something in response to keep everyone happy. I heard a very interesting YouTube analysis of the situation tonight where they said that there have been other, worse, crises in the past (e.g. the 1918 flu epidemic) and there wasn't this over-the-top response. They suggested that this was because of the current climate of victimhood, safe-spaces and inability to cope with any sort of adversity - basically we have bred a post-war generation of wimps! Obviously it is something we should take seriously, but the advice initially showed a lot more common sense: keeping a safe distance from others, frequent hand-washing etc. etc.

Lovely set of new pencils, Neet! Gorgeous range of colours. You will have fun with those I am sure. I love your umbrella-skirted girlie! I hope you keep well in the absence of your chiropractic appointments, and that you will soon be over whatever cold-flu bug you are currently suffering from.

Thank you for your lovely comment which really made me smile - I have always said to my hubby that he shares one characteristic with the kitties - he won't do anything if it isn't his idea lol!! You hit the nail on the head there! I am so glad that you are continuing to enjoy the kitty pictures - I always have you in mind when I post them! Mostly these days they are of slumbering kitties but they do manage to look cute even when doing that, don't they. My box of double-knitting yarns is the latest favourite sleeping place.

I'm glad you like my recent crafty efforts, and the splendid herb garden that my hubby made too! I'm looking forward to watching the herbs growing and filling their little compartments in the summer, and pottering out to pick them for the cooking.

Keep well, and keep smiling - washed up chocolate notwithstanding!!

Happy belated WOYWW and hugs,

Hello Neet, sorry I am so late this week - life's got in the way. Sigh. I hope by now you've got over whatever was ailing you Wednesday morning and that it hasn't developed into anything more serious. I love the image on your journal page - her umbrella skirts are great fun. Take care and stay well. Hugs, Elizabeth x #31
