Checked quite a few blogs and it seems as if Julia and I were out of sync last week hence the "AGAIN" in my blog title this week. Hope I am now right. WE are!
Went to see a Spinal Specialist last Friday and his diagnosis was that this continual pain I have suffered with for the past 7 months is due to a muscle. Not much they can do quickly by the sounds of it but I am being referred to a team who specialise in Pain Management and Spinal Physiotherapy. Roll on. The other physio did nothing so fingers crossed for this.
Enough of that - what's been happening? Well, I went to my local club, Vicky Stampers, on Saturday for a couple of hours. Didn't feel up to it but armed with hot water bottle and tablets I went along mainly to support my friend Lorraine who was taking the class.
It was "atc's with a twist" and the "twist" was that we were making atc's with acrylic blocks rather than the usual card. As the acrylic is quite expensive we had some atc coins in our pack for us to do but most people only did the acrylic anyhow. I managed one but came home and up to now have done another and made some coins.
The coins were easy for me to do as I made several, months ago, in readiness for swapping at the Dutch show, but we didn't make it because of my back, so now I have a few more to add to the collection for when we do go, hopefully next April.
The acrylic atc's I have made are quite simple but you have to work in layers. You first of all stamp your image with Stazon and then paint it with acrylic paints. This is painting 'from the back' and you need to keep holding it up to the light to make sure you have no "holes" showing through. This took several layers of paint before the leaves n the bird one were done. When you are happy with it you put a layer of double sided sticky tape on (in sheet form, no idea what to call it), carefully peel it off and then add either glitter or, as I have done, gilding flakes. Lorraine actually put my flakes on for me as I could not get my tub of them open and so she used hers. Then you rub off the surplus and you are finished.
Well, when I came to do the second one (mushrooms) at home I realised how lucky I had been with Lorraine doing my flakes before. It was fine getting them on and rubbing them off but putting them back in the little tub was a nightmare. I could not find my 'tray' to rub the excess flakes off so in my wisdom I used a piece of brown craft mat. Static!!! The flakes kept sticking and flying everywhere. Then in my rush to get them in I caught the edge of the tub and they all spilt out. They were everywhere ... and flying everywhere. What a pickle. Be warned flakes and craft mats do NOT go together!
Poor Chas had to come in and help me clear up as, by this time, my back was hurting like crazy and silver flakes were everywhere. I've gone off that idea and might use glitter for the next one even though I am not a bling/glitter person. On the other hand I might just use a piece of fancy paper or card.
Well you came really to see my desk because I am showing it as a participant of WOYWW - want to know what I mean? Click here and find out all about the best and longest blog hop ever - so here it is.
Not at all interesting - some atc coins, a new stamp (Dylusion of course) an old envelope, a sheet of instructions and in the foreground the offending piece of craft mat still holding some silver flakes. Not at all interesting ... BUT here is something that is. Towards the end of last week look what dropped through my letterbox, a complete and delightful surprise, all the way from Oz:
So delighted to have one of Sandra de's watercolours and just look at the detail and the colour in the card. I have long admired Sandra's work and am thrilled to now have these in my collection.
Better go now - this has turned out long but I was trying to share the "know how" with the acrylic in case you wanted to try.

I do hope the new physio helps Neet when you get your appointment through. Love the ATCs although flakes can definitely be a pain if you don't have a tray handy. I now decant mine into a box with a lid and work inside it for adding and buffing up. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #2
Hope this physio helps, Neet, and congrats for no. 1 spot today :) Loving all the photos of arty goodness!
Happy WOYWW :)

I really hope the next physio helps with your back pain. I haven't used gilding flakes for a long time but to remember their tendency to fly everywhere! Didn't want to ignore your Qs from Kew- not sure what the flowers you queried are, will try and look next time! hope you're asleep by now! Helen #6
Look at you at the top of the pile this week Neet and you’ve been busy too.
Your flower piece is really pretty, I like the colours

It's good to see you've managed some crafting be it limited but the best thing today is that hopefully they have found what your back problem is....now they have just got to treat it!
Hugs,

That's a great idea with the acrylic, I love the effect of the flakes behind the image - I might give that a try. I had to smile at your mishap, it reminded me of when I opened up a tub of flakes while my ceiling fan was on - it looked like a heavy snow storm in my studio and they stuck to literally everything! Sandra De's work is stunning isn't it - I love what she sent you, you lucky gal.
I hope the new physio works for you, it's good they've pin pointed what the problem is, so fingers crossed they can now sort it out for you.
Hope you have a good week
Hugs, Diana x #18
I can just imagine the frustration of trying to chase those flakes...I'd have resorted to the hoover, I'm afraid!! The coin atcs are very different, do you find the circular shape more challenging to think of ideas?
Great news you've been referred to somewhere for your back, let's hope it helps!

I'm hoping your new routine will help your pain issues soon. I have struggled for many years and used to see a chiropractor but now when my back slips out of space, I can manage to pop it and get it back into alignment on my own. Love your desk space, your preparations for yur ATC
s looks wonderful! Glenda #21
Oh Neet what a time you have been through - praying the specialist physio can help. Did you know that Dyan has released 6 new stamp sets?
What a pickle you and the flakes must have been in :(
Blessings

Oh, Neet, I hope they can sort that wretched back pain for you – you’ve been suffering for too long. And I made you stand up when we met at the crop when I should have bent down to give you a hug but I wasn’t thinking. I still feel bad about that, so thoughtless of me. Your ATC's look superb! I can see how the acrylic could work with the glitter on the back. I could have easily got into the same pickle with the flakes LOL. Have a lovely week and fingers crossed for your appointment! zsuzsa #23
ps. that's a long way for Sandra de's watercolours to travel but it was sure worth the wait! They look stunning!
I’m sorry to hear that you’re suffering with back pain and hope that the physio will be able to help. Lovely coins and ATCs.
xxx Hazel.
Can't wait to see the finished ATCS Neet. It looks like you having fun!
What a lovely surprise from Sandra, a bit of a tonic I should say. How marvellous. I am glad to hear that another physio will be looking at you, I really hope it will help, the thought of pain management rather than getting over it fills me with hurt for you.
Now..the gilding flakes. Get a large ziplock bag and empty the flakes into it. Then you put whatever you’re working on in the bag and work on it in there. Not a perfect solution but much much less stressful than a spillage! Acrylic ATCS, that would make a memorable business card for the demonstrator type too.
Hi Neet, fingers crossed the new physio can help you. You've suffered with your back pain for way too long! I'm sorry but I had to laugh at the mishap with the gilding flakes - it's just the kind of thing that would happen to me. I like the acrylic ATC - I don't fully understand the methodology (but that's me being blonde) - you can show me when I visit - when the physio has helped your back, and I'm back from holiday. I would probably use glitter as I don't have gilding flakes - and they sound too much like hard work! Have a lovely week, hugs Heather xx #11
Hi Neet. After a long time I'm back. You have not had an easy time of it either. Not sure if I have done this properly. Hugs Rita xx
Hi Neet, I think I'll pass on the acrylic - sounds like too much bother with all that static. Hope the Spine Specialist has really found the source of your pain and that the offending muscle responds to the treatment he's prescribed because it sounds really painful. Love the look of the animal stamps I can see propped up on your desk - they are full of character. Hope you have a better week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #24
Back pain is the worst and as you already know, affects your whole life. I hope you are able to find some pain relief soon. The acrylic atc/coin project sounds like a whole lot of work but probably beautiful to look at! Have a wonderful week. Dorlene #29
Fingers crossed for you and the new Physio. I had to smile when you mentioned Gilding flakes. I love them but always use them in a plastic box as they have a habit of escaping, you know what I mean! Wishing you a lovely creative week and a happy woyww, Angela x13x
Hi Neet, oh my, I can sympathise with the flakes, having once made the mistake of coughing while working with them! Swiffer cloths- available on Amazon- help a lot, you can cut each one down into about 4 pieces and they mop up flakes & glitter a treat. Tip from Jennifer McGuire. Hope this physio will be able to help, it must be really making you feel rotten. Eyes have cleared enough to be able to type now, lol. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #16 X
Hi Neet, Ooh I hope the next round of dr.s has something better for you to try and that is a good tip about the craftmat that totally sounds like something I would have tried and I have to tell you I was grinning and nodding along reading the mushrooms story. :) ~Stacy #30
Sorry i'm late this week Neet but good to read there maybe light regarding your back pain. I know how hard it has been for you but hope now you can see a way forward, finger crossed the pain management will be effective.
I did laugh about the flakes, yes they can be a pain in the bum, they have a life of their own. Who would have believed something so small and dainty could be so unruly!! Hee hee!! Lovely ATC's & ATCoins i'm glad you didn't let your pain get the better of you and decided to go to the class. Wonderful playday results.
Happy WoywW Hugs Tracey #8
Oh Neet, your story about the flakes made me smile - just like Alex and my glitter embossing powder - it stuck to everything - I am still finding it weeks later. the static element is so frustrating. I really hope that the specialist spinal physio helps as it has been ages now. I am praying for you. With love and God Bless, Caro xxx
