Well, what a busy time I have had of it, travelling around. First Spain, then home for three days and off to my friend's house for a few days and a trip to another friend straight afterwards. Then home for two days and off again to Nottingham to see my lovely friend Liz who is going through chemo at the moment for breast cancer.
What a wonderful lady she is. It was so good to see her and reassure myself that she is still, kind of ok, and the little tinker had gone and made us some biscuits (I had made some buns to take down with me). Well, Liz has discovered zentangling and what wonderful work she has been doing. You can check it out on her blog here because she has now posted some pictures of some of her work. We had a wonderful time with me trying on her hats, she has some amazing creations and they are so comfortable to wear. Anyhow it is the 'tangling' I was going to mention, I am digressing.
Liz is convinced I can do it (me not so) and as she pointed out, it will be good with the journalling that I have been doing of late. Imagine me doing my own borders.
Well, she set me off on a hunt for a couple of books she recommended. One was available in supermarkets - err, supermarkets?
After visiting quite a few and then ringing other branches of Sainsbury's/Tesco/Asda/Morrisons I gave up. Chas finally found one of them on a bookazine for me and I duly paid up and was ready to receive it tomorrow when I got an email telling me they had refunded the money as they did not have any copies. To cut a long story short I am now paying over the odds for it via ebay. Guess what? Chas was in our local tiny Morrisons today and he rang me to tell me they had it on the shelf!!! The one place I had not checked ... ah well, woe is me. I don't need two and the order is on its way. Roll on Thursday.
Anyway, here is my desk, complete with a journal page that needs some doodling on:
Observant followers of WOYWW will notice that I have a little room to the left of where I normally sit - I have cleared a bit of space by moving some drawers along. Much better for me to work. But look what I got today
More Dylusion stamps. Have waited ages for these and am now raring to go in my journal with some more images. There are some new stencils underneath too. Doing a (Helen) Happy Dance.
I am so tidy because as outlined at the beginning I have been away rather a lot and today my niece came with her adorable baby boy. She is a beautiful girl, both inside and out, and as a result she has a very happy little boy who has the most beautiful blue eyes and is so so good. I would love to post a picture of them but am always wary of posting kiddie pictures on the internet and would not do so without her permission. You just have to take it from me, they are both beautiful.
Can't leave this post without telling you about last week when I went to see Liz. We stayed at the Eco Hotel (De Vere) in the grounds of Nottingham University. Fabulous - will go again. Everything is "green" and the rooms are quite minimal but to a high standard. Comfortable in every way - and I am hard to please about beds!
The restaurant was good, we had a lovely three course meal in the evening and a super breakfast next morning. Staff are very nice and extremely polite and helpful. All in all I can recommend it for a good night's stay.

Iron, ironing board, hospitality tray, safe, hairdryer (all tucked away in the wardrobe with a full length mirror and lots of coathangers).
Just wish I had taken some photos of the reception/bar/restaurant areas - everything sparkling clean and modern.

Hope I have convinced some of you to give it a try, it is very moderately priced. The next day we went to Newstead Abbey, but that will have to wait for another post. Must get over to the stamping-ground to see some pictures and hear the news about the crop last weekend. Hopefully next year ...

Ahhh....Zentangling.....the one thing I thought I'd really enjoy doing.....and I hated it!! LOL I remember sitting there cursing as I had yet another section wo fill up with patterns, wishing it was already finished. Now, that's not good for Karma and mental peace, is it?? LOL Ah well, it wasn't for me but I so admire those who can, as I really adore looking at the amazing patterns...just not creating them ;-)
I'd forgotten about your fabric Neet, so sorry, send it down to me and I'll get going as I have a bit more time now Dad's settled.
Hugs, LLJ 15 xxxx
Good to read that your friend is encouraging you to doodle. There are a ton of resources online for free to compensate for what you must have paid out for the book :) I doodle everyday, it's relaxing, fun and keeps the hand, brain co-ordination strengthened. Hope you are relaxing after all your travels. As someone who hates travelling, I'm full of admiration. P xx
I made ONE zentangle and said I would never do it again. It took TWO days to get my hand straightened enough to work properly. There are some things I won't try again, and that is one of them.
Loved the hotel you shared. I can't get close enough to visit, but I will do so vicariously through you. It sure looked lovely, and quite modern, too.
Really enjoyed your post and read every word, too.
So glad you got to see the dresses and those totally gut retching hangers I made (grin).
Thanks for the visit, and Bleubeard wants to cuddle with you. Happy WOYWW from #1.
I feel tired just reading about your busy travels LOL. Glad your friend is coping. Going to check out the zentangle blog later-I love zentangle and still a novice....OMG I just had to look and she is so talented!! Yeah I'm like you I am still struggling with it. Didnt know Dylusion had stamps. Wow that is a very modern hotel, bet you had a great time there

Hi Neet, you always seem to be on your travels! Bet your friend loved your visit and the hotel looks really interesting. I have to comment on the stash - those are some cool looking stamps! Have a great Weds, Happy Cindy #25
I don't have the patience with Zentangling but really appreciate other peoples work. Always stunning to look at the detail. Can't wait to see your future projects.

Thanks for showing the hotel- we may be headed there later in the year! Enjoy playing with your stamps in that lovely tidy space!! Chrisx36
Hi Neet and thanks for visiting my desk. Your space is looking super clean - same as I've left mine at home...and here I have to keep things in a bit of order as the cats love sitting on anything you're working on. Your friends Zentangles are fabulous...you should give it a go.Have a great week Cheers RobynO#16
Hi Neet, blimey you've been a bit of a gadabout, haven't you?lol.Love the hotel pics, and am pleased your friend is doing well, her treatment will be much more intense than mine, so I can imagine it's very hard for her. I really do feel that I'm getting off lightly, compared to many others.Totally with you on child pics on the internet, I find it scary how many people post childrens pics on FB, they clearly don't realise how easily those pics could end up anywhere.Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #20 xxx
I've always fancied entangle, even got a freebie taster from Amazon but forgot to have a go!
Pleased to hear you enjoyed visiting my home town, it's many years since I actually lived there though.

Some great storage ideas round your desk, I may have to pinch some.
Love the stamps Neet. I am sure you will soon be able to make a mess on that lovely tidy desk. I have just recently bought a book on Zentangling from Morrisons, bet it's the same one. Hope you have fun with it. Thanks for the visit to mine and happy woyww,
Angela x 21
Enjoyable post. Glad you're home safe and got to have such fun while away. Loved the place to stay. Best Wishes to Liz. Enjoy a lovely week
Hi Neet! Visiting from WOYWW - nice to meet you!
I like your desk area, it's a great place to work. And you have new stamps! I'm into stamps this week - have been stamping and making cards, for the first time in months.
Haven't tried Zentangling, though I have always doodled, so maybe I'll just carry on with my own scribblings... If you can't do it/ don't like it, you could make borders the way I did on this blog post (which was inspired by another blogger!) - scroll down a bit to see what I'm talking about: http://lizziemade.blogspot.co.uk/2011/02/peacocks-posies-cards-and-cats.html
in my head, ( being American) you know when you read the word Nottingham you picture castles in your mind you know? old stone ones with beautiful glass... so the hotel being so modern was such a funny contrast. YAY for having such fun trips :) ~Stacy #71
What a lovely post, Neet! So much of interest in it. I clicked on the link to Liz's blog straight away and absolutely love what she is doing! She is certainly a very creative lady. Her Zentangles are fabulous!! I commiserated with her about the chemo - mine is starting tomorrow. I am very fortunate in that I shan't lose my hair with my particular one, but the other side effects sound terrifying... thank you for your lovely comment, and yes, it's great being able to do some art again - and I'm glad you like the mixed media card I made for my hubby's birthday!
Happy WOYWW,
