We heard a noise outside on Sunday evening and this is what we saw when we looked outside
A flippin' big branch had broken off the Ash tree
Might not seem bad to any of you but as the tree has a Preservation order on it ... Of course, if something is going to happen it has to be on a Bank Holiday weekend. Got in touch with the Council yesterday and apparently we should have our trees examined by a surgeon every three years. If you have trees in your garden read up about it and certainly do so if you are thinking of buying a property which has trees in its garden. So yesterday was taken up sawing the thing up and disposing of it and now today I really must get some cleaning done, clothes sorted for weekend and supplies packed. Might even bake for Wendy's lovely husband. Oh, and I need to get in touch with some tree surgeons for them to come and give me estimates for work on all our trees. Bang goes my week in the sun!
Well, this is my desk for all you lovely WOYWW followers
as you can see I must be in a black and white mood
Had to make four birthday cards, one for my dear friend Paul for this weekend, which is why it is turned around, and three others for members of Vickie Stampers. So, that is it folks, short and s...hort! Pop over to the stamping ground to see what Julia has to say this week and see how many folks are up there with pictures of latest makes and desks.

Trees that are old are lovely, but gee they can be troublesome.Sorry you had to spend your hol cutting up branches.
The first time I heard about preservation orders was when I moaned and groaned about the neighbor who cut his tree down to about a four foot stump. It was as big as the one in my yard. I was sick, then some told me about what you guys have to go through. We have NOTHING like that here, because the owner has full control over the property.
Have a great time at the workshop. Love that you are a bit black and white this week. Bleubeard said to tell you he's a shade of grey if that helps (grin). Happy WOYWW from # 2.
Wow! Huge tree. Good thing it's not close to the house. Yep every three to five years tree canopies need to be thin and damaged limbs or crossing limbs should be removed. Makes for a healthier tree. Enjoy your workshop! Happy WOYWW! Nan G #21
Here in Australia in summer because the heat is really nasty trees suddenly drop their branches without much warning, especially the gum trees. Your ash does look like a lovely healthy tree, lucky it didn't have a car parked under it and hey it is only one branch. Be careful those tree people don't rip you off.
Sounds like you are off to have a fun filled weekend planing and playing, have a great time and create heaps. Love the cards on your desk too.
Happy WOYWW

Shame about your tree at least it didn't do any real damage to anything and that sentiment on the card "Well behaved women..." it is so perfect for a friend of mine must remember it for her BD :)
Sorry about your tree branch breaking, they do make a loud noise when they break don't they? I didn't know that trees in personal yards can come under a preservation order. Love your black and white cards, very striking and classy looking!!! Happy WOYWW.

Hope you have a fabulous time, I wanted to go but at the time of booking things were not looking good money wise (though thanks to the new job are ok now!) so I am very jealous - and it would have been great to meet you! oh, well one day..! Shame about the tree, and the work to clear it up. Helen 23
Well I have learnt lots about having trees in your garden this morning I did not know
Love the black and white cards it has reminded me I have that bird house stamp !
Have a good weekend

Oh dear, shame about the tree and now the additional expense. I only decided (mentally) to remove all the bottom trees from my garden in Scotland (I'll do it from long distance) because they are on the border and my neighbour doesn't appreciate them, I have them lollipopped every third year... so year one they look like carp, year two they are bushing up nicely, year 3... I lollipop them... LOL Not worth the expense and I will exchange them for shrubs!!
Loving the black and white themed cards... you just gave me an idea... Annette #9
Hi Neet, good job your car wasn't underneath the branch. Love the cards, its sometimes nice just to work in black & white. Have a good day. Francesca #55 xxx
Love the cars Neet, black and white is always elegant and none more so than these.Thank goodness the branch fell in the night when it couldn't hit anyone. Trees in a garden are always an asset, so worth the hassle.
Quick visit this week as I'm trying to visit a few more desks this week.

Oh dear. I do hope the tree branch didn't damage tender plants below it. Beautiful trees like that are well worth preserving, but it does put a lot of responsibility on your shoulders.
I like your black and white cards though I don't enjoy making them myself.
Enjoy your weekend and the workshop. Kate x #61
Lucky you! A Finnabair workshop! I so love her creations! I hope you get all the chores done and that you have a wonderful, creative time. Your black and white cards look so effective. Have a productive WOYWW! Julie Ann xx #42
oh wow, that is a big branch, good thing no one was under it! the black and white cards are looking good! happy WOYWW!
Ouch...timber! ;D
Hmm...we have lots of trees on our plot Neet so you've given me food for thought.
I love your cards and am glad that it's not just me that seems to keep to the black and white theme.
Enjoy your workshop...it sounds like you're in for some fun :D

gosh! does it need checking for that ash disease, do you think?
hope you have a really fun weekend!!
happy WOYWW and have a great week :)

Lucky you going to a Finnabair workshop :) That'll be lots of fun and inky mess. Loving the BW mood you're in. Such a classic and stylish colour combo. Enjoy your weekend. Pxxxxx
Lucky, lucky you to be going to Finnabair's class. I went to her workshop this year and it was amazing. STill using lots of her techniques. Looking forward to seeing what you make.

Gosh that would cost me a fortune if I had to get that done with all my trees on my acre of land.. I have just put a lovely ornamental pear in my front yard it is just bursting into blossom will be so pretty.. I love your theme you have going there with the cards on your desk, lovely.

Hi Neet, your cards look great so crisp and elegant - Love them x Heather #85
Oh dear that lovely tree, but trees can be a bit of a problem. When we bought this house it was disappearing behind 87 Leylandii, thought there might be a sleeping beauty inside somewhere, but fortunately no preservation orders so all but three are now gone, slowly demolished over 14 years.
I love your black and white cards, they always look so special.
Hope you enjoy your weekend.

I like your cards! Black and white is always a challenge for me, but I love how yours look! Uniflame - 95
Hi Neet, what a shame for your tree to lose a limb ... lucky no one was nearby at the time. I like your black and white cards. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you to enjoy the weekend, the workshop is bound to be fun. Happy WOYWW, Elizabeth x #59
To answer your question what do I put between the stencils? Well I leave the plastic packet between of the package that the stencil came in. Some I have still in there packets but the ones I use a lot, yea they just get put on top of the package, they are always drying out anyway. Love all the circle ones and the diamonds.. Just found Kaisercraft company local to me they have stencils half the price of ones that I normally can get. I brought the chevron one today looking forward to using that one and they have a nice brick one that is on my list.
Sandy :)
Sorry to hear about your tree problems. Love the black and white cards. Happy crafting #3
Hope you have a great time at the workshop. We've got a garden full of trees, didn't even give them a thought when we bought the house. We now know how much a tree surgeon costs!! Hugs. Pam#36
Sis in law got hit on the head, wake up in the middle of nowhere with blood every where! Had to use her socks to soak it up! The only thing it could have been was a tree branch, sh's okay now.. nice cards, nice and simple, I'll have to have a go!

#57 Happy WOYWW!
Hmmm.... I'm your first to comment? Wow! Love your tree. We have mostly mesquites since we're considered desert. And I love black & white cards. Yours are gorgeous! Happy WOYWW!

Hi Neet, what a shame about your tree. People should make sure their solicitors include TPO's (tree preservation orders) when doing lical searches prior to purchasing a house. There is certainly a responsibility when you have these orders. Just a suggestion......before you get in touch with any tree surgeons call your local district council and speak to their arborist - he will be able to recommend a trustworthy tree surgeon. And before you ask if I'm a closet tree hugger (!!!), no I'm not, just a Parish Clerk in our village! Onto your very clear and tidy desk and your gorgeous cards - black and white is so classy. Lucky friends to receive these. I am so jealous of your Finnabair workshop - can't wait to see your creations.
Hugs.

I love the simplicity of black and white and your cards are wonderful. I hope that a tree surgeon doesn't cost as much as a people surgeon. Although, I do understand if you need people to climb up your palm tree and cut off dead fronds, you will pay handsomely for it.
I love black and white a quick easy way to make something great with pop.
Uh, oh... poor tree - and poor you if you now have to pay to have all the others looked after! Love the look of all those very chic b&w cards.
Please don't be too excited about meeting me... it's bound to be a letdown if you're not careful!!

It is much the same in regards to councils and trees here too in Australia.......we have gum trees in our back yard that are nicknamed widow makers as they tend to loose branches often. One once missed hitting my hubby by a few seconds. I am loving your beautiful CAS Designs for your birthday cards, black and white is always so elegant and your sentiment re women on the one at the front made me smile. So true! Have a great week! Danie #62
Great black and white cards, Anita! Sorry about your tree :(
Thank you for your sweet comments, my friend. I'm doing really well. Also, I wanted you to know that the newer units DO last anywhere from 7-12 years, so if they told you yours would last ten, that's prolly right. Mine was older and back then they only lasted six years. So no more worrying!!
Have a fantastic time at the weekend workshop! I know you will!! Hugs, Darnell
Ooops... trees are just like that! A huge willow in our yard dropped a big branch one year on the 1st of July, when all the summer holidays begins here. So we had to make several phone calls till we got someone to take it off - partly from our balcony...
Your black and white cards looks great!
You asked if I´m going to decorate my kite. I think not this one, but if I get red bags, I may make a dragon... (I may have some kind of childhood trauma of not-flying kites... ;) )
Hugs!

Hello, I am sending this to everyone. Im sorry I am not going to be able to get to all the desk and I have now lost my sheet of paper that I was writing them down on. I don't think my cat is going to make it through the night to even see the vet. She is old just like my dog so I guess they are going to get sick at the same time or so. I just going to copy and paste and sorry to every one that I didn't get to read.. I just cant do it right now. Thank you Roberta 40 and bright blessings to all.
Hi Neet - glad your tree didn't cause any damage - love black and white - I sometimes have a B & W stage its refreshing not having to match colours - hugs - Thanks for popping by Happy WOYWW Mxx #48
Sad to see the fallen branch but at least no-one was hurt. Next door they have a dead tree in their garden - each wild windy night I half expect it to end up over our fence! x jo
I always laugh about preservation orders on stuff of nature, in the wild the trees just fell themselves.
black and white is a great combination and one of my favourites
Bridget #80
Loved the black and white cards - hope you are having a good time with your friend and all the preparation. That ash tree is beautiful, hope the surgeons only cut what is necessary!! Large trees are at a premium - and let's face it, without them, we would be rather short on the oxygen!
Margaret #37
Well that's the craziest thing I have EVER heard. A tree inspection. I would imagine that could get pricy. There are 4 or 5 very tall half dead trees on our neighbors property that line our driveway. The last few storms my hubby actually moved our vehicles for fear the trees would fall on them.
Love your B&W cards. I'm sure their recipients will as well. Hope you had a wonderful weekend. (((HUGS)))
